Join the Salem Quilters
SALEM QUILTERS HAVE DECIDED NOT TO MEET IN THE MONTH OF JULY DUE TO TOO MANY CONFLICTING SCHEDULES: The quilters will resume meeting in August on Tuesdays, but at a new time. Please note the quilters will meet on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. (Strombeck Room)
GLLM Fundraising Quilt Auction
Two Salem member quilts are annually entered into the Green Lake Lutheran Ministries fundraising quilt auction at Green Lake Bible Camp in Spicer, MN. These quilts, made by Kathy Leindecker and Ardy Eekhoff, always do very well at auction!
In 2017, Kathy's large quilt (pictured) was the highest bid quilt of the whole auction - raising an astonishing $3,200! In the small quilt category, Ardy's quilt (pictured) was the 2nd highest bid and brought in $250! Thank you to Kathy and Ardy for their time and talent in making beautiful quilts and donating them to the auction year after year! And to the other Salem Quilters who also help with the auction and spend so much time creating quilts for LWR and Salem babies and graduates!
The 2018 Quilt Auction is scheduled for Saturday, July 28th. Quilt Review ($3) is on Friday night (27th), 5-8 p.m. and also Saturday morning, 9-10:30 a.m. The auction begins at 11:30 a.m.
Salem Quilters' Projects
Thank you to the Salem Quilters for dedicating their time and talent to making quilts for Salem baby baptisms, Salem High School graduates, and mission quilts for Lutheran World Relief. LWR is, "A non-profit organization that works with local partners to provide lasting solutions to poverty, injustice and human suffering" http://lwr.org. More information on LWR Mission Quilts can be found at: http://lwr.org/quilts. In May of 2018, the quilters sent 15 quilts to LWR! We also thank Salem member quilters Kathy Leindecker and Ardy Eekhoff for donating their beautiful quilts annually to the Green Lake Lutheran Ministries Quilt Auction each July. Their quilts typically raise a lot of money for the GLLM mission and we look forward to hearing this year's results! For more information about GLLM, look here.
Salem's quilters do more than make quilts! They are also involved in other mission projects, such as putting together health kits and making backpacks stuffed with school supplies. In 2016, the Salem Quilters made 20 complete backpacks for Lutheran World Relief. In addition, they began donating supplies to Global Health Ministries. Global Health Ministries is in need of bandages and pillow cases for their hospitals, so the Salem Quilters gathered used, donated sheets from Country Inn and Suites of Montevideo which they turned into 956 rolls of bandages and a box of pillowcases!
In August 2016, Salem started collecting items to once again assemble school kits for Lutheran World Relief, and also items for hospice kits which will be distributed to mission hospitals by Global Health Ministries. Before September was over, they had already collected enough school supplies for the LWR school kits! A big "Thank You" to everyone who donated school supplies at Salem for this project!
